Operation of an Ez Freeze gas refrigerator

Adjusting Temperatures....
The EZ Freeze Refrigerator is equipped with a thermostat that can be adjusted by turning "Temp" knob to the desired setting. Always start the refrigerator at setting "2" and let the unit cool down for at least 8-12 hours. Then place food in the unit in small amounts spread out every couple of hours. If a large portion of room temperature food is placed into the unit at one time, this may "zap" the system and may take three times longer to recover. Once you have placed the food into the unit, allow the unit to stabilize for at least overnight. Adjust the thermostat to a higher number if colder temperatures are needed. The best time to check the refrigerator temperature is in the morning prior to opening the door. Using an external digital thermometer is the most accurate and efficient way to monitor the refrigerator temperatures. If the refrigerator is within good food keeping temperatures (36F to 42F) then the freezer will be optimum.

Refrigerated food should be keep between 36F and 42F. Optimum for this unit is 38F to 40F. This minimizes the need for defrosting and lowers gas consumption.

Adjusting to the correct temperatures may take a span of a few days. Once this is achieved, then adjusting should only need to be done if the ambient temperatures (between seasons) change or your lifestyle changes (more people using the unit).

Tricks N Tips....
All propane powered non electric refrigerators are manual defrost. If the frost builds up solid as to there is not a gap between the fins on the back wall of the refrigerator, then the unit is not operating at it's full efficiency. It is time to defrost. See the Defrosting section.

To keep frost levels lower, follow the below tips;

  1. Cover liquids.
  2. Let food cool prior to storing in fridge.
  3. Dry off wet foods, i.e. vegetables, prior to storing.
  4. Minimize door openings during hot humid weather.
  5. Check the door seal for leaks.
  6. Be sure the fridge temps are correct.

Making ice....
Use metal ice trays. Metal transfers cold more efficiently than plastic. Older aluminum ice trays are the best, but miniature cup cake trays work well.
